CARLILE

BOTHELL HIGH ALUM1999 FOOTBALL CAPTAINSTRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Coach Derek Carlile is a Bothell High School alum whose connection to the community began long before he joined the lacrosse staff. As a student, Carlile was involved in ASB and played fullback for the Cougars, serving as a captain of the 1999 football team. Those experiences helped shape the leadership, accountability, and team-first mindset he now brings to Bothell athletes.

Strength, conditioning, and human performance have been a lifelong pursuit for Carlile. That interest eventually led him to college coursework in kinesiology and exercise science, where he studied the science behind human movement, training, and physical performance. As family responsibilities grew, he shifted his academic path and ultimately completed his degree in Business Administration, but his study and practice of strength training never stopped.

For decades, Carlile has continued to study and apply principles of strength development, conditioning, speed, agility, recovery, and athletic performance. His approach combines that academic foundation with years of practical training experience, emphasizing movement quality, explosive power, acceleration, change of direction, work capacity, and the ability to perform when tired.

At Bothell Lacrosse, Carlile leads the program’s approach to conditioning, speed, agility, and mental performance. His sessions are designed around the actual demands of lacrosse, helping athletes move faster, recover more efficiently, and maintain their physical edge late in games.

STRONGER ATHLETES. TOUGHER COMPETITORS. RESILIENT YOUNG MEN.

Just as important as the physical work is the mindset behind it. Carlile challenges players to embrace difficult training, stay composed under pressure, be accountable to their teammates, and become comfortable being uncomfortable. He believes conditioning is one of the best places to teach athletes how to respond when things get hard.

His goal is bigger than getting players in shape. It is to help develop disciplined, confident, resilient young men who understand how preparation, consistency, and hard work carry from calisthenic-based movement, speed and agility work, and the practice field into competition and life.
