REGISTERVARSITY & JV GOALIE COACH
BLAYNE
CANTU
Coach Blayne Cantu brings a unique blend of lacrosse and high-level hockey experience to the Bothell coaching staff. His lacrosse background began in the Mukilteo program, where he played from fifth grade through high school, giving him years of experience with the sport before moving on to pursue competitive hockey.
From 2016 through 2018, Cantu played for the Islanders Hockey Club in the USPHL, competing in a fast, demanding environment that required discipline, awareness, quick reactions, and strong decision-making under pressure. Those qualities translate naturally to lacrosse goaltending, where positioning, anticipation, communication, and mental toughness can determine the outcome of a possession in an instant.
Cantu joined the Bothell Lacrosse coaching staff approximately two years ago and has become an important part of the program’s goalie development. Working with both varsity and JV goalies, he focuses on building strong fundamentals while helping players understand the mental side of the position—staying composed, communicating with the defense, recovering after goals, and developing confidence in the crease.
His background in two high-speed sports gives him a different perspective on goalie development. He understands the importance of footwork, angles, reaction time, vision, and remaining calm when the game is moving at its fastest.
CALM IN THE CREASE. STRONG FUNDAMENTALS. CONFIDENT GOALIES.
As Bothell continues to build a stronger development pathway for its goalies, Coach Cantu provides dedicated position-specific instruction and mentorship that allows players to grow from the youth and JV levels into confident varsity competitors.
